I can’t begin to count how many times I have been wrong in my life, and boy, I’m really hoping this will be again, one of those times.
You see, if you can’t tell from my writing, I have never been a fan of Trump. This goes back to when he was just a real estate developer who kept going bankrupt. That’s because I would read about him and how he would stiff his subcontractors and trades people, and to me, that’s an unforgivable sin. I never watched the apprentice, not being a fan really of reality TV, though I like the auto mechanic shows. I never took his run for the presidency serious. Like many, I couldn’t believe he had been elected, albeit by the electoral college. I also never bought this talk about elections being stolen. Just because you say it, doesn’t mean it’s true. 63 court cases and no evidence. And then not a peaceful transfer of power. Another tradition dating back to George Washington thrown into the waste bin of history.
So here we are again. As a business owner I’m looking beyond the big picture of America. I’m looking at:
The deportation of immigrants but not coming up with a system to allow more legal immigrants to come in. We need more employees!
Placing tariffs on most of the goods coming into the U.S.
Abandoning Ukraine and giving Putin an upper hand to crush the country and move his sites onto other countries.
Abandoning NATO, which has kept peace in Europe for over 70 years. We’ve had some pretty bad luck in the past when Europe is fighting.
Putting the Justice Department under the executive branch (which it already is but with independence) to go after political enemies.
Getting rid of career government employees that have expertise in areas and replacing them with political supporters
Having Elon Musk cut 2 Trillion out of the economy, more than all our expenditures except the interest on debt. I have my doubts on this one.
Placing a conspiracy theorist in charge of public health.
Vowing to either get rid of the Federal Reserve, or put it under the executive branch eliminating its independence. This could wreak havoc on the markets.
How will a simple brewery survive the disruption of our stable economy? I hope people still need to drink, even if they spend a nickel for a pint. This is why I need to be wrong. Maybe this is just the kick in the butt America needs? I know it makes the hair on the back of my neck go up. And when I was in law enforcement, I learned you pay attention to that.
Anyway, I lift a pint to all my fellow Americans in hopes for a better and more peaceful future.
Thank you. I own a very small business and I am…pretty terrified. And we were hoping to open a brewery but who knows if that can happen if they crash the economy.
You're not wrong. The fundamental misunderstanding of remedial economics is wide spread. The acceptance of Trump's criminality is abysmal. It's not worth milk being cheaper.
My hope is beer can win.
We all need a place to get away from the noise.
